Film-maker Thom will be talking about his film ‘I Am Dyslexic’ and showing some clips from it. Here’s Thom on himself and his film.
My name is Thom Davies and I am Dyslexic! I am also a film-maker funded through Kickstarter to make a feel good, entertaining documentary for school age dyslexics. It will be what I wish I could have seen at their age – a comedic look at the bizarre world that is dyslexia – showing it is not the end of the world, and to encourage others to find their passion in life, as I have. As once we find it we can harness our concentration, build confidence and believe in ourselves.
School was predictably difficult and I left at 16, then tried several college courses before finding the confidence to realise my dream of filmmaking. My short film ‘I am Dyslexic’ has had more than 80,000 hits on YouTube, and hundreds of messages from young people thanking me for making it and sharing their experiences. This inspired me to make a feature length documentary. Different to the rest, it is uplifting and made by dyslexics to entertain, enlighten and change perceptions, with a mix of comic sketches, animation and inspiring personal stories.
