Activities

We have some great activities lined up for SPLAT!

Some are free, others we kindly ask for a donation and a few you can book in advance for a small charge, in order to cover the costs of materials and venue hire costs.

The various activities fall into three separate categories: workshops, talks and fun for families. See our schedule for a list of all the times for each activity.

Here’s a list of the activities on offer.

– Fun for Families –

Treasure Trail (Free)

Fun animal-themed treasure hunt around the town centre for all ages. Pick up you clues sheet from Tamworth Library from 11:00am and finish no later than 3:00pm.

Prize draw for all winning entries. Full details on arrival.

 

Craft Activities (Free)

Animal-themed craft activities between 11:00am until 3:00pm provided by Community Together CIC at the Community Hub in the Castle Grounds.

 

– Talks –

Being A Writer (Free)

Author Sid Lotto will be in St Editha’s Community Hall talking about his epic Steampunk Fantasy series Terra Finite and being a dyslexic author.

Open to all ages and will be between 1:00pm to 1:30pm. Please arrive 10 minutes before the start. No booking needed, but spaces may be limited. Anybody under 16 years must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Sid will also be selling copies of his books at the Book Fair.

 

I Am Dyslexic – The Movie (Free)

Film-maker Thom Davies will be in St Editha’s Community Hall discussing his fun documentary I Am Dyslexic, how he came to make it and showing the trailer for it.

Open to all ages and will be between 2:00pm to 3:00pm. Please arrive 10 minutes before the start. No booking needed, but spaces may be limited. Anybody under 16 years must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Thom will be on hand afterwards for anybody who wants to ask him questions or simply have a chat.

 

– Workshops –

Comic Book Illustration (£3.00 per person – 20 spaces)

Learn how to draw engaging characters and stories for comic books and graphic novels.

Professional comic creator Al Davison will be running this workshop in St Editha’s Community Hall from 10:30am to 12:00pm.

Stop-Motion Animation (£3.00 per person – 10 spaces)

London based animator and illustrator Danny Midwinter will be giving children aged between 11 and 14 years an opportunity to learn how to make a simple, yet effective stop-motion story at Tamworth Library 10:30am to 12:00pm.

Spoken Word/ Performance Poetry (£3.00 per person – 10 spaces)

Award winning young poet Jasmine Gardosi will be running this interactive workshop in Tamworth Library between 1:00pm to 2:30pm.

Aimed at people aged between 13 and 18 years of age, Jasmine will cover the basics of what makes a great poem and how to deliver it live in front of an audience.

Drawing for Young Children (Free)

Children’s book illustrator Amy Bradley will be running three separate workshop sessions in Tamworth Library, aimed at teaching children of primary school age how to draw one of her own book characters.

Amy will also be doing a reading from one of her books Penguinpig and doing book signings.

Each session will be no more than an hour long and start at 10:30am, 12:00pm and 13:30pm. Just call in and join in the fun!

Note that all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

 

Video Stories Workshop (Free)

Ever wanted to know how to edit all those videos you make on your smartphone into proper entertaining and engaging short stories? Then this is the workshop for you.

Mal Dewhirst will be running drop-in sessions between 11: 30am and 3:00pm at St Editha’s Community Hall. Simply pop along with your smartphone and Mal will give you some simple instructions on recording some video and then help you edit it into a short film.

Last arrivals at 2:00pm, to allow Mal time to help you with the editing.
